This video is the short film 45 RPM, beautifully shot in Northland New Zealand 2014 by Mark Solter. Produced by 3's a Company in association with PaXifica Moving Image Production. The film is set at a time when there has been social collapse, leaving a troubling absence of other human beings, three 'survivors' make uneasy companions—nostalgia and revenge make awkward companions for survival.
Over winter 2013/14 I worked closely with Jeff Gane to create the soundtrack to this short film. We had many long and interesting Skype discussions to try and find a soundworld that would help create the wider world of this short film. Although Jeff is in New Zealand and myself living in Manchester, UK, there was a flow and freedom to the way we worked together. Recordings of improvised cello (Rod Skipp) and cor anglais (Bethan Roberts) were made and sculpted into this piece. In April 2014, I completed the soundtrack for this short film.
45 RPM received its premiere in Auckland, September 2014.
