Norman Skipp is a NZ/UK composer/sonic artist and video artist based in Manchester, UK. Norm devotes himself to creating innovative sound and visual compositions in collaboration with a diverse range of artists. His wide and varied body of work often involves multi-artist works that blend sonic art, butoh, theatre, video art and instrumental performance such as ‘Safe In Sound’ and ‘Feast’. Large scale collaborations with Australia based director/dancer/choreographer Gabrielle New, Creature and The Thing with Feathers, had successful seasons in Melbourne. Norm’s film soundtrack work includes 45 RPM and the award winning short film The Moon Smells Like Gunpowder His regular collaboration with new music ensemble Vonnegut Collective began with the creation of '...tiny lights...'  in 2015, inspired by the writings of Haruki Murakami.

He completed a Music degree (composition) in New Zealand in 1994 studying with Jack Body, Ross Harris, John Elmsly and John Rimmer. In 2007, while in residence at the Centre Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) in Paris, he was fortunate enough to study with Gérard Pape, Jean-Claude Risset, Trevor Wishart, Curtis Roads, Harry Halbreich, Agostino di Scipio and Makis Solomos

International performances of his video and sound work have taken place in New Zealand, Australia, U.S.A., U.K., France, Canada and Iceland as part of festivals such as NextWave, Soliton, Pulsefield, 34th New Zealand International Film Festival 2002, RAFLOST 2011, Festival Licènces and Synthèse.

Obsidian’; for Cor Anglais, Clarinet in A and Bassoon written for the Manchester Reed Trio

‘The Right to Remain Silent’; which was realised at CCMIX in Paris in early 2007

‘An Aversion to Light [2]’; a short dance film collaboration with choreographer Kristian Larsen and composer leyton

‘Beyond Skin’; a mixed media dance collaboration with choreographer Kathleen Skipp

‘Epithalamion’; a live–processing realisation of the poem by E. E. Cummings with actor Michael Hurst for the (09)03 Contemporary Music Festival

In 2008 he formed _scape with his brother Rod Skipp to create various improvised live electronic works.  Large scale works ‘(arc)’ and ‘open’ were created with a number of notable Manchester musicians.
